UFO (Unidentified Flying Object)If you ever have a house guest stay a little later than you intended, here's what you do: Start a discussion about UFOs. It's been our experience this can lead to two possible outcomes. Your guest will either ridicule you, in which case they give you a reason to throw them out, or they will choose to beat a hasty retreat to their planet of origin without further provocation. Our guests usually choose the latter. UFOs In HistoryContrary to popular skepticism, UFOs are not a modern phenomenon. Long before we (human beings) had any reason to suspect that anything might possibly fly (other than birds), we've been observing objects in the sky, flying, that didn't fit into our communal understanding. This is readily evidenced in the Bible (click here or scroll down for examples). The bible is by no means the only ancient text to speak of UFOs. Early Egyptian hyroglyphs depict flying machines and at least one papryus document, the "Tulli Papyrus", is thought to exist, or have existed, detailing the appearance of several UFOs during the time of Thutmose III. There are also numerous ancient sanskrit documents speaking of flying vehicles, their origin, and even there construction. We offer only one link, here, refering to those documents, but many more can be found with a simple search. UFOs In ArtFrom the arguably ambigous bible, and other documents of questionable origin, we can move to the somewhat less ambiguous world of art. For many centuies UFOs, many startlingly similar in spite of hundreds of years separation, have appeared in artistic works. Some of the object are explained by many as mere iconographic representations of natural celestial objects such as the Sun and Moon... particularly those from medieval times. A good example of such explanations of can be found here. But there's a great deal of art, in many different forms, which cannot be so easily explained. A very good collection of such works can be viewed here. Eventually we will make images of this art and artifacts available directly from our site, but for now the above links should suffice. UFOs Around The WorldInterestingly, the Chinese, a culture which generally discourages "Thinking outside the box" thanks to its communist government, takes the subject of UFOs quite seriously. Could this simply be do to paranoia concerning it's political place in the world? Could they just be allowing their populace to take an interest so as to distract them from troubles closer to home? Check it out here. Perhaps the most famous case of UFO sightings from England is the Bentwaters/Woodbridge AFB sighting. This sighting involved several highly reputable sources (including the American Deputy Commander of the base), and was taken seriously by the British government though less so by the Americans. The History Channel presented a strong case for the British governments interest and investigation of the UFO phenomenon. Read about that here. The Russians, not to be left out, have long been interested in the subject. Could it be inventiveness on the part of entrepreneurs to boost tourism that lead to such headlines as this? They've been sighted in every culture spanning every continent and every country on Earth. The sightings themselves have spanned millenia. The scientific community still seems determined to "debunk" the whole topic. My question is not "Do UFOs exist?" The amount of circumstantial evidence necessary to convict a murderer in our court system is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of circumstantial evidence supporting the existence of UFOs. The pertinent question is "Why hide it?" Something to think about. The links below provide even more food for thought on the topic of UFOs. Biblical UFO References
