UFO (Unidentified Flying Object)

If you ever have a house guest stay a little later than you intended, here's what you do: Start a discussion about UFOs. It's been our experience this can lead to two possible outcomes. Your guest will either ridicule you, in which case they give you a reason to throw them out, or they will choose to beat a hasty retreat to their planet of origin without further provocation. Our guests usually choose the latter.

UFOs In History

Contrary to popular skepticism, UFOs are not a modern phenomenon. Long before we (human beings) had any reason to suspect that anything might possibly fly (other than birds), we've been observing objects in the sky, flying, that didn't fit into our communal understanding. This is readily evidenced in the Bible (click here or scroll down for examples). The bible is by no means the only ancient text to speak of UFOs.

Early Egyptian hyroglyphs depict flying machines and at least one papryus document, the "Tulli Papyrus", is thought to exist, or have existed, detailing the appearance of several UFOs during the time of Thutmose III.

There are also numerous ancient sanskrit documents speaking of flying vehicles, their origin, and even there construction. We offer only one link, here, refering to those documents, but many more can be found with a simple search.

UFOs In Art

From the arguably ambigous bible, and other documents of questionable origin, we can move to the somewhat less ambiguous world of art. For many centuies UFOs, many startlingly similar in spite of hundreds of years separation, have appeared in artistic works. Some of the object are explained by many as mere iconographic representations of natural celestial objects such as the Sun and Moon... particularly those from medieval times. A good example of such explanations of can be found here.

But there's a great deal of art, in many different forms, which cannot be so easily explained. A very good collection of such works can be viewed here. Eventually we will make images of this art and artifacts available directly from our site, but for now the above links should suffice.

UFOs Around The World

Interestingly, the Chinese, a culture which generally discourages "Thinking outside the box" thanks to its communist government, takes the subject of UFOs quite seriously. Could this simply be do to paranoia concerning it's political place in the world? Could they just be allowing their populace to take an interest so as to distract them from troubles closer to home? Check it out here.

Perhaps the most famous case of UFO sightings from England is the Bentwaters/Woodbridge AFB sighting. This sighting involved several highly reputable sources (including the American Deputy Commander of the base), and was taken seriously by the British government though less so by the Americans. The History Channel presented a strong case for the British governments interest and investigation of the UFO phenomenon. Read about that here.

The Russians, not to be left out, have long been interested in the subject. Could it be inventiveness on the part of entrepreneurs to boost tourism that lead to such headlines as this?

They've been sighted in every culture spanning every continent and every country on Earth. The sightings themselves have spanned millenia. The scientific community still seems determined to "debunk" the whole topic. My question is not "Do UFOs exist?" The amount of circumstantial evidence necessary to convict a murderer in our court system is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of circumstantial evidence supporting the existence of UFOs. The pertinent question is "Why hide it?" Something to think about. The links below provide even more food for thought on the topic of UFOs.

Biblical UFO References

  • Genesis 28:12 - "He" (Jacob) " had a dream; a stairway was set on the ground and its top reached to the sky, and angels of God were going up and down on it."
  • Genesis 5:24 - "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, for God took him." This one is interesting because although we speak of "God taking" today as a euphemism for death, no where else in Genesis is death referred to in that way. In fact, in the old testament, Enoch is one of only two persons who did not definitively die. The other is Elijah.
  • Exodus 13:21 - 13:22 - "The Lord went before them in a pillar of cloud by day, to guide them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light that they might travel by day and night. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people."
  • 2 Kings 2:9 - "As they were crossing Elijah said to Elisha, 'Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?' Elisha answered, 'Let a double portion of your spirit pass on to me.' 'You have asked a difficult thing,' he said. 'If you see me as I am being taken from you, this will be granted to you; if not, it will not.' As they kept on walking and talking, a fiery chariot with fiery horses suddenly appeared and separated one from the other; and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind."
  • Ezekiel 1:4 - 1:21 - " I looked, and lo, a stormy wind came sweeping out of the north — a huge cloud and flashing fire, surrounded by a radiance; and in the center of it, in the center of the fire, a gleam as of amber. In the center of it were also the figures of four creatures. And this was their appearance: They had the figures of human beings. However, each had four faces, and each of them had four wings; the legs of each were [fused into] a single rigid leg, and the feet of each were like a single calf's hoof; and their sparkle was like the luster of burnished bronze. They had human hands below their wings. The four of them had their faces and their wings on their four sides. Each one's wings touched those of the other. They did not turn when they moved; each could move in the direction of any of its faces. Each of them had a human face the front]; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right; each of the four had the face of an ox on the left; and each of the four had the face of an eagle the back]. Such were their faces. As for their wings, they were separated: above, each had two touching those of the others, while the other two covered its body. And each could move in the direction of any of its faces; they went wherever the spirit impelled them to go, without turning when they moved. Such then was the appearance of the creatures. With them was something that looked like burning coals of fire. This fire, suggestive of torches, kept moving about among the creatures; the fire had a radiance, and lightning issued from the fire. Dashing to and fro [among] the creatures was something that looked like flares. As I gazed on the creatures, I saw one wheel on the ground next to each of the four-faced creatures. As for the appearance and structure of the wheels, they gleamed like beryl. All four had the same form; the appearance and structure of each was as of two wheels cutting through each other. And when they moved, each could move in the direction of any of its four quarters; they did not veer when they moved. Their rims were tall and frightening, for the rims of all four were covered all over with eyes. And when the creatures moved forward, the wheels moved at their sides; and when the creatures were borne above the earth, the wheels were borne too. Wherever the spirit impelled them to go, they went — wherever the spirit impelled them — and the wheels were borne alongside them; for the spirit of the creatures was in the wheels. When those moved, these moved; and when those stood still, these stood still; and when those were borne above the earth, the wheels were borne alongside them — for the spirit of the creatures was in the wheels."
